Compass Lexecon is thrilled to announce that leading antitrust expert, Dr. Lona Fowdur, has joined the firm as an Executive Vice President in our Washington, DC office. Dr. Fowdur joins us from Secretariat Economists where she held the role of Managing Director. She is an outstanding antitrust economist, with significant testifying experience, a growing set of clients, and specific expertise in many industries, including healthcare and energy.
Dr. Fowdur has over 13 years of experience as a practicing antitrust economist. Throughout her career, she has been involved in high-profile cases, including horizontal and vertical mergers between hospitals, physician groups, pharmaceutical benefit managers, and health insurance companies. In the energy sector, she has taken leading roles in electric utility mergers, market power allegations, investigations of exclusionary practices, market-based rate filings, and other regulatory investigations of the electric, natural gas, and coal industries.
Dr. Fowdur has been recognized as a thought leader in competition economics by Who’s Who Legal. Consistent with this recognition, she has authored several articles and has spoken on numerous panels — including some sponsored by the American Bar Association and American Health Law Association — discussing topics including the economics of healthcare transactions, econometric tools for competition analysis, cross-market healthcare provider mergers, and physician practice acquisitions.
Also joining Dr. Fowdur from Secretariat Economists is Dr. Cagatay Koc. Dr. Koc has over 15 years of experience in economic consulting, during which he has provided expert testimony on antitrust-related cases.
Dr. Fowdur commented, “I am delighted to join Compass Lexecon, a firm that has become a true center of excellence for antitrust economics and has gathered an amazing group of professionals in the field. I have enjoyed my prior collaborations with Mark and other Compass Lexecon economists, and I am looking forward to working more closely with such an impressive group of colleagues.”
Compass Lexecon Senior Managing Director and Global Executive Committee Member Mark Israel added, “I am absolutely thrilled for Lona to join us. She immediately strengthens the breadth and depth of our expert team with her significant testifying experience and extensive antitrust, healthcare, and energy expertise. I have worked with her on previous matters — as did Compass Lexecon founder Bobby Willig — and we both came away extremely impressed. I look forward both to partnering with her and to seeing how her career takes off from here.”
