Janne Kinnunen is an Economist at Compass Lexecon, based in Helsinki.

Janne’s work focuses on the application of economic analysis and empirical techniques to competition policy cases. His work has included the assessment of competitive effects in mergers and other economic analyses under Article 101 and Article 102 TFEU proceedings as well as intellectual property valuation and policy and regulation related matters.

Janne has worked on cases before the European Commission and various national competition authorities globally. He has also experience working before the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal and the Finnish Market Court. His expertise is in market definition and assessing closeness of competition using different types of data, such as survey data. He has also applied advanced techniques, such as network analysis.

Recently, Janne assisted in providing economic advice to parties in joint venture proceedings of Orange/MásMóvil (telecommunications) and merger proceedings of NVIDIA/Arm (technology) before the European Commission and various national competition authorities globally; GeneraLife/Livio (healthcare & life sciences) merger proceedings before the Swedish Competition Authority; Lantmännen/Myllyn Paras (FMCG) merger proceedings before the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority; and Sportradar v. Football DataCo (sports) Article 101 and 102 TFEU proceedings before the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal.

Before joining Compass Lexecon, Janne worked in merger control and policy evaluation units at the Finnish Competition and Consumer authority.

Janne holds an M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Economics from Aalto University School of Business.
