Francisco de la Lastra

Francisco is an Economist at Compass Lexecon, based in Santiago

Francisco is an economist with experience in competition economics, mergers and acquisitions, and regulatory and policy analysis. His work focuses on antitrust investigations, merger reviews, and litigation involving allegations of anticompetitive conduct and abuse of dominance, as well as regulatory matters impacting network industries and natural resources.

Throughout his career at Compass Lexecon, Francisco has worked on complex merger and joint venture transactions before competition authorities in Chile and abroad, including high-profile cases in the mining, transportation, electricity, and food processing industries. His experience also encompasses antitrust litigation and investigations involving exclusive practices, abuse of dominance, and cartel allegations before the Chilean competition authorities and other agencies in Latin America. In addition, he has supported clients in regulatory and policy-related matters, including assessments of draft legislation and its impact on investment incentives.

Francisco has participated in cases across a broad range of industries, including energy and electricity generation, telecommunications, transportation, mining, food processing, cement, and natural gas. He has worked in close collaboration with legal advisors and executives on behalf of leading corporate clients in Chile.

Francisco holds a Master of Arts in Economics and a Bachelor’s degree in Business and Economics from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. During his academic training, he served as a teaching assistant in both microeconomics and macroeconomics at the same institution. His areas of interest include competition economics, industrial organization, and applied economic analysis.
