Edward R. Morrison

Edward Morrison is a Professor of Law at Columbia Law School. He has taught at Columbia and the University of Chicago since receiving his Ph.D. in Economics and J.D. at the University of Chicago. Prior to joining academia, he clerked for Justice Antonin Scalia and Judge Richard A. Posner.
Ed is an expert in corporate valuation, corporate restructuring, corporate and consumer bankruptcy, empirical analysis of contracts, and mortgage markets. His research focuses on both theoretical and empirical issues and is published in top journals such as the American Economic Review, Journal of Law & Economics, and Journal of Legal Studies. An award-winning teacher, Ed teaches corporate finance, bankruptcy law, and contracts. He has served as advisor and consultant to hedge funds, law firms, and corporations.
Ed’s work has been cited by the bankruptcy bench and bar, and has received support from the National Science Foundation and The Pew Charitable Trusts. He was a co-recipient of the John Wesley Steen Law Review Writing Prize from the American Bankruptcy Institute for his research on the Dodd-Frank Act.
Ed has served as a director of the American Law and Economics Association and as a member of the US Supreme Court’s Advisory Committee on Bankruptcy Rules. He is a former editor of the Journal of Legal Studies and American Law and Economics Review.
He recently testified in high-profile cases involving large corporate bankruptcies, including Wesco Aircraft Holdings (Incora) and Hertz International.
