Compass Lexecon is pleased to announce that Professor Katja Seim has affiliated with the firm as a Senior Consultant. Professor Seim is an Associate Professor of Business Economics and Public Policy at the Wharton School, specializing in applied microeconomics in general and industrial organization in particular. Her research focuses on two areas, each of which is highly relevant to Compass Lexecon's day to day work. First, she studies how firms make product introduction and entry decisions, including how they assess the competitive implications of different market entry strategies, and how public policies and regulatory interventions shape these choices. Second, she analyzes price discrimination and nonlinear pricing, primarily in the context of communications and information industries. Her research has been published in leading journals such as American Economic Review, American Economic Journal: Microeconomics, Econometrica, Marketing Science, and the RAND Journal of Economics.

Seim spent the 2016-17 academic year as the Chief Economist at the Federal Communications Commission. This policy-relevant, telecommunications and media experience, together with her academic work on entry, product introduction, and pricing, makes Seim an outstanding fit for Compass Lexecon and an outstanding addition to our roster of Senior Consultants from academia.

Professor Seim received her PhD in Economics from Yale University and her undergraduate degree in Economics and Mathematics from Franklin & Marshall College. At Wharton, Katja teaches courses in the MBA and undergraduate programs on Managerial Economics, Public Policy design, Regulation and Antitrust. Before joining Wharton, she was on the faculty at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Mark Israel, Senior Managing Director at Compass Lexecon, stated, “I’m thrilled to add Katja to our network of academic affiliates. At Compass Lexecon, we seek to work with the highest-quality academics, who combine the highest-level, topical academic research, with applied, policy-relevant experience, and an ability to connect and communicate with a wide range of audiences. Katja exemplifies all of these traits perfectly. She immediately broadens and deepens the expertise we can bring to a wide range of cases.”

Professor Seim added, "I am honored to join Compass Lexecon. The opportunity to apply my expertise to complex projects working alongside an incredibly accomplished team at Compass Lexecon is very exciting."
