Dr. Timo Autio is a Senior Economist with Compass Lexecon, based in Helsinki.

Timo focuses on the application of economic analysis and empirical techniques to competition policy, intellectual property rights, and quantification of damages. His work has included the assessment of competitive effects in mergers. Timo has worked on cases before the European Commission, the UK CMA and various national competition authorities globally.

Recently, he assisted in providing economic advice to merging parties related to the transaction Aon/Willis Towers Watson (insurance products) with proceedings before the European Commission, and related to the transaction Cargotec/Konecranes (global container handling equipment companies) which was notified in a large number of jurisdictions including the EU, the UK, China, and the USA. His responsibilities included the assessment of product and geographic market definitions and competitive constraints globally.

In Finland, he assisted in providing economic advice to parties in merger proceedings of Kesko/Heinon Tukku, and Mehiläinen/Pihlajalinna before the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority and the Market Court.

Before joining Compass Lexecon, Timo was a founder and Managing Director at Auctum Capital, a Finnish investment company, where he was responsible for daily administration and equity research.

Timo holds a D.Sc. in Economics from Aalto University. His dissertation focuses on Investment and Lending and his Ph.D studies included a year-long research visit to New York University. Timo has also completed Postgraduate Diploma studies on EU competition law from King’s College London.
