Otto Toivanen

Professor Otto Toivanen is a Senior Consultant with Compass Lexecon, based in Helsinki.

Otto is a faculty member at the Department of Economics at Aalto University School of Business and heads the Helsinki Graduate School of Economics. Otto also heads the Helsinki GSE Situation Room which provides up-to-date analyses of the Finnish economy during the COVID-19 crises on a weekly basis.

Otto is an expert on industrial organization and the economics of innovation and has advised on numerous competition and damages cases in Europe. He has testified in front of the Market Court, the Court of Appeals, and the Helsinki district court. Otto is listed among the best economic advisers by Who’s Who Legal 2020.

Otto is a member of the European Advisory Group on Competition Policy at DG Competition, and he is on the editorial board of the International Journal of Industrial Organization. He has been a member of the executive committee of the European Association for Research in Industrial Economics and an associate editor of the Journal of Industrial Economics. He is also a research fellow of the Centre for Economic Policy Research. His work has featured in journals such as RAND Journal of Economics, American Economic Review: Microeconomics, Review of Economics and Statistics, and the Economic Journal.
