Mathieu Gimenez

Mathieu Gimenez is a Senior Economist based in Compass Lexecon’s Paris office and a member of the European energy practice.

Mathieu has significant experience working on economic and regulatory issues in energy markets. At Compass Lexecon, Mathieu has worked on several assignments related to market design, network regulation, investment and strategic support for corporate and institutional clients in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

His recent projects include: supporting the reform of electricity markets in the Middle East and West African countries; supporting the implementation and review of capacity markets for European transmission system operators ("TSOs"); regulatory and strategic support for a French gas TSO and storage operator during its negotiations with the National Regulatory Authority ("NRA"); and an impact study of the imbalance settlement period reform for the French NRA.

Prior to joining Compass Lexecon, Mathieu worked as an Analyst within the Renewable Energy Support Schemes Department of the French energy regulator CRE. In this role, he designed and implemented the regulatory frameworks for electrical energy storage, energy efficiency and demand response in the French overseas territories.

Mathieu previously worked in the Oil & Gas industry within TOTAL and Schlumberger.

Mathieu holds an M.Sc. in Engineering from Mines Paristech and studied geophysics at Caltech. He gave several lectures on the role of flexibility (demand response and storage) in the energy transition. Mathieu is native in French and fluent in English.
