Kirsten Abeln is a Senior Economist in Compass Lexecon’s European Competition Policy practice. She is based in the Milan office and practices in Brussels and London.
With over a decade of experience, she has extensive expertise in competition economics. Kirsten has been involved in a number of high-profile cases relating to a range of competition matters.
Kirsten’s analytical focus lies on merger analysis. She has provided economic advice in various merger control cases before the European Commission as well as national competition authorities across multiple jurisdictions, including some of the highest-profile EU and global mergers in recent years. Examples are SES/Intelsat, Broadcom/VMware, Energizer/Spectrum Brands, Praxair/Linde, ChemChina/Syngenta. Kirsten also advised clients in the context of follow-on damages cases (e.g., following the EC Trucks Decision).
Her experience encompasses a variety of industries, including, amongst others, agrochemicals, consumer batteries, industrial gases, nuclear electric power generation, satellite communication, and telecommunication.
Kirsten holds an MSc in Economics with an emphasis on Competition and Regulation from Tilburg University. Her working languages are English and German.
