Francesco Astolfi is a Senior Economist at Compass Lexecon based in Madrid.

Mr. Astolfi possesses 10 years of experience in applying economic and regulatory analysis in the energy markets. He has worked extensively on price reviews, arbitrations and disputes in the gas markets in Italy and Spain. He has also helped experts providing written and oral expert testimony before courts and arbitration tribunals. Additionally, Mr. Astolfi has worked on gas disputes and power markets competition cases in Spain, gas price reviews in France and Germany, and power markets modeling in the context of capacity remuneration mechanisms in Italy, Poland and Ireland.

Prior to joining Compass Lexecon, he spent four years in the competition policy area of an established economic consulting firm in Madrid working on a wide range of markets, including gas and power. In this previous role, his work focused on the assessment of market power, relevant markets definitions, as well as mergers and antitrust damages in connection with cartel investigations.

He graduated from the University of Rome and completed an M.Sc. in Economics at the University of Warwick in the UK. He has also completed a Diploma in EU Competition Law at King’s College London and the Master’s programme The Energy Business at the Spanish Energy Club, an energy think tank in Madrid.
