Economist Paolo Ramezzana Rejoins Compass Lexecon in Europe from the U.S. Federal Trade Commission

Compass Lexecon is delighted to welcome back economist Paolo Ramezzana as a Senior Vice President in its Milan office. Paolo joins after six years at the U.S. Federal Trade Commission where he worked as an Economist and then advisor to the Director of the Bureau of Economics.

Paolo has almost 20 years of experience applying economic analysis to competition matters in consulting, government, and academia. At the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, he provided economic analysis and high-level briefings on a variety of cases, including merger reviews and investigations of potential anticompetitive conduct in pharmaceutical, technology and digital markets. Before joining the FTC, Paolo had been a Senior Vice President at Compass Lexecon and a Principal at Bates White, both in Washington, DC, as well as a consultant in London.

Paolo specializes in applying economic theory and modelling to unilateral conduct cases and merger reviews. As a consultant, he has developed significant analytical and industry expertise by working on a variety of high-profile matters in sectors such as telecommunications, media, digital markets, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and high-tech industries.

Paolo has a PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics. He has been an assistant professor at the University of Virginia and published in the European Economic Review and the Journal of Industrial Economics.  He has also acted as a referee for leading academic journals and presented at academic and policy conferences, including a plenary session at an International Competition Network meeting in Rome.
