Urs Haegler is a Senior Vice President at Compass Lexecon, based in London.

He has worked on antitrust investigations, mergers and State aid cases across several industries, including telecommunications, media, financial services, mining, manufacturing, construction, energy and transport.

His experience in the financial-services sector includes, inter alia, providing economic analysis related to allegations of anti-competitive agreements to manipulate financial/commodity benchmarks or otherwise distort asset prices; advising parties in the European Commission’s merger control proceedings in Deutsche Börse/London Stock Exchange; and assessing competition between investment banks in the context of a market study by the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). Most recently, he has advised Mr Merricks in his collective proceedings on behalf of UK consumers against Mastercard, in relation to interchange fees.

Urs has conducted extensive economic analyses of efficiencies resulting from revenue-sharing agreements between the parties on transatlantic/transpacific routes in the aviation sector. Furthermore, in the context of abuse-of-dominance (margin squeeze) allegations, he has performed financial and economic analyses of services offered by European telecommunications incumbents investigated by the European Commission and national competition authorities, respectively. He has also been involved in damages litigation cases and arbitration matters across several jurisdictions.

Before becoming an economic consultant, he was a Lecturer in Economics at the University of London, where he taught courses in asset pricing and corporate finance, as well as game and contract theory. Urs Haegler holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the London School of Economics. He has published in generalist journals such as the European Economic Review and Economica, as well as specialist journals including the Journal of European Competition Law & Practice and Competition Law & Policy Debate.
