Marcelo Schoeters is an Executive Vice President at Compass Lexecon International Arbitration Practice, based in Buenos Aires and Miami. He has more than 33 years of experience.
He specializes in economic and regulatory analysis, valuation of businesses and other assets, and the assessment of damages in the context of international and commercial arbitration cases. Mr Schoeters has been recognized as a Leading Expert Witness by GAR since 2010, Lexology since 2021 and Client Choice in 2023.
Mr. Schoeters has participated in over 85 investment and commercial arbitration cases (30+ as testifying expert) in several industries (electricity, oil & gas, toll roads, water & sewage, airports, railroads, telecommunications, hospitality, real estate, fishing activity, aluminum, retail) in: Argentina, Bahrain, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Italy, New Zealand, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Russia, Spain, Trinidad & Tobago, Turkey, United Kingdom, Ukraine, Uruguay and Venezuela.
He has provided written and oral expert testimony on damages and regulation issues under ICSID, ICC, IACP, UNCITRAL, CCB, CCL, CCS, US Litigation and ad-hoc rules.
Mr. Schoeters has also served as economic advisor to Argentina’s Secretariat of Energy (1993-2000), Member of Cooperación Técnica BID - Mercosur and the 9th Group on Tariffs at Mercosur (1995-97), and as energy expert at Mercados Energeticos (2000-2005), where he led more than 50 matters for both public and private institutions in the electricity sector, involving tariff setting, dispatch simulation, risk management and regulation, firm valuation and privatization processes. He was also Senior Managing Economist at LECG (2006-2011).
