Ahsan Kirmani is a Senior Vice President at Compass Lexecon based in Washington, DC. He has over a decade of experience leading large teams conducting complex economic and financial analyses and supporting clients and experts through all phases of litigation, including at trial, and in regulatory proceedings. He specializes in finance and securities matters, damages calculations, as well as mergers & acquisitions (M&A) litigation and valuation issues. He has consulted on cases in a variety of industries, including oil and gas, utilities, financial institutions (including banking, hedge funds, and private equity), healthcare and pharmaceuticals, metals and mining, consumer goods and retail, among others.
Mr. Kirmani has extensive experience with matters involving Rule 10b-5 and Section 11/12 claims. In Rule 10b-5 cases, he has examined issues relevant to class certification (including market efficiency, price impact, and Comcast considerations) as well as merits (including loss causation and inflation). In addition, he has assessed potential damages exposure and conducted analyses used in settlement discussions.
Mr. Kirmani has conducted valuations of companies and individual assets using discounted cash flow (DCF), comparable companies, and comparable transactions methodologies. He has evaluated the impact of an alleged material adverse effect (MAE) on a target company’s valuation and analyzed actors that can create long-term value for firms. He has also addressed issues related to solvency, bankruptcy, and financial distress.
In addition, Mr. Kirmani has led teams working with respondents in investigations and litigations brought by regulators such as the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). He has assessed complex disclosure issues and analyzed disgorgement in government enforcement actions.
Prior to joining Compass Lexecon, Mr. Kirmani was a Principal at Cornerstone Research. Earlier in his career, Mr. Kirmani worked in private equity, where he focused on evaluating and executing transactions across multiple industries as well as developing operational and strategic initiatives for portfolio companies. Mr. Kirmani earned an MBA in Finance and General Management from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business and an MS in Financial Engineering from Columbia University.
