Professor Mats Bergman is the fourth Academic Affiliate to join Compass Lexecon's growing Nordic team
We are delighted to announce that Professor Mats Bergman will be joining our established Nordic practice as an Academic Affiliate based in Stockholm in January 2019. His appointment follows that of Professors Richard Friberg, Frode Steen and Otto Toivanen, who joined the team in June.
Professor Bergman served as the Chief Economist of the Swedish Competition Authority from 1997 to 2001, and again from 2004 to 2007. In this post, he oversaw the authority’s economic analysis in competition law cases. In addition, Professor Bergman was a director of the board of the Swedish Post and Telecom Authority between 2007 and 2017 and has, since 2010, been a member of a pool of economic experts for the Patent and Market Court and its predecessor (a part of the Stockholm City Court). This role involves being appointed on a case as one of two economic experts acting as judges on the case, under the lead of two regular judges.
Professor Bergman is currently Head of the School of Social Sciences at the Södertörn University in Stockholm. A highly-respected academic, his research is focused on the field of Industrial Organization, in particular on the economics of competition policy, mergers, regulation and deregulation, network industries and public procurement.
Professor Bergman’s work has been published in leading journals including the Review of Industrial Organization, International Journal of Industrial Organization, Journal of Health Economics, Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, International Journal of Public Sector Management, Review of World Economics, Journal of Purchasing and Supply Management and the European Competition Journal.
