Maria Friese
Senior Economist
Dr. Maria Friese is a Senior Economist in Compass Lexecon’s European competition policy practice, based in Madrid and Düsseldorf.
Maria has worked on several high-profile cases in front of the European Commission and National Competition Authorities, including mergers, antitrust investigations, and estimations of cartel damages. Her areas of expertise cover a wide range of industries such as energy, transportation, food services, and consumer goods.
Maria holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the Düsseldorf Institute for Competition Economics (DICE). Previously, she earned her B.Sc. at Maastricht University and her M.Sc. at Utrecht University. Her research focuses on the organizational determinants of firms’ productivity. It has been published in leading field journals, including the International Journal of Industrial Organization and the Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization.
