Despina Doneva is a Senior Economist at Compass Lexecon, based in Lisbon.
Despina has extensive experience across commercial and investment treaty arbitration, with involvement in numerous arbitration disputes in different venues including ICSID, ICC, SCC and LCIA.
She also has experience in competition matters in front of the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal and Spanish Court.
Despina mostly specialises in energy and infrastructure matters. In particular, she has worked on disputes related to electricity markets (generation, transmission, distribution, and retail), oil & gas markets (extraction, transportation, distribution and retail), raw materials markets, and cases related to highway concessions and water and wastewater networks.
Her work mainly involves application of economic analysis to estimate the appropriate compensation in investor–state and commercial disputes, regulatory analysis of remuneration frameworks applied to infrastructure assets and economic analysis of contractual clauses in pricing disputes.
Despina holds an MSc in Economics and Finance from Centro de Estudios Monetarios y Financieros (CEMFI, Madrid), where she specialised in applied microeconomics, competition and regulation, and corporate finance. She holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Economics and Business Economics from Utrecht University in the Netherlands.
