Jonathan F. Foster, Leading M&A Process Expert, Affiliates with Compass Lexecon

Compass Lexecon is pleased to announce that Jonathan F. Foster, an accomplished expert witness in complex corporate litigation, has affiliated exclusively with the firm.

Mr. Foster is the founder and a managing director of Current Capital Partners LLC and has more than 30 years of experience as an investment banker, corporate director, and private equity investor.  

As an expert witness, Mr. Foster has worked on more than 50 cases with law firms on behalf of major companies and investment firms. He has filed numerous reports, given many depositions, and testified at arbitration and in court primarily on mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, valuation, and governance issues. 

In 2008, Mr. Foster founded Current Capital Partners, an independent advisory and merchant banking firm that offers mergers and acquisitions advisory, corporate management services, and private equity investing. In the management services effort, firm professionals led by Mr. Foster sit on Boards of Directors and provide related consulting services for other investors and financial institutions. Additionally, they provide Chief Restructuring Officer services and offer advice and expert witness services in corporate litigation.

Mr. Foster has served on 35 boards ranging from small private companies and distressed companies in and out of bankruptcy to Fortune 500 companies. From 2008 to 2016 he was an appointee to the New York Power Authority Board, America’s largest state-owned power organization; his appointments were made by three separate governors and confirmed by the Senate. 

Mr. Foster’s career began at Lazard where he spent more than ten years, ultimately as a Partner, working on mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, and financings. From there, he went on to toysrus.com where he was Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Financial Officer. He worked in private equity as a Managing Director at Cypress Group, a middle-market private equity firm, and was Executive Vice President of Finance for Revolution Living, the investment vehicle owned by AOL founder Steve Case. Mr. Foster was also a Managing Director and Head of Industrial Mergers and Acquisitions at Bear Stearns and a Managing Director and Co-Head of Diversified Industrials at Wachovia Securities (later acquired by Wells Fargo). 

He earned his BBA in Accounting from Emory University and his MSc in Accounting and Finance from The London School of Economics and Political Science. He has completed executive education at Harvard Business School and the University of California, Berkeley.

He has spoken, written, and been quoted widely on mergers and acquisitions, finance, and governance issues and lectured at various universities.
