Frankel's areas of expertise include industrial organization and applied microeconomics. Since 1985 he has analyzed economic issues arising in a wide variety of antitrust, intellectual property, merger and acquisition, damages analysis and other litigation and regulatory matters. Frankel has served as a consultant to the United States Department of Justice, the Canadian Competition Bureau, the U.K. Office of Fair Trading, and the New Zealand Commerce Commission, and for many private parties. Frankel is a leading expert in the analysis of competition in payment systems and networks; his writings on payment systems have been cited by regulators and economists in proceedings around the world, and he has consulted and spoken about payment markets in many countries. He holds BA, MA and PhD degrees in economics from the University of Chicago, the latter of which was awarded in 1986. In addition to his consulting activities Frankel serves as a Senior Editor of the Antitrust Law Journal.
