Compass Lexecon Continues Growth in Europe and Latin America

Following its recent expansion into Europe and Latin America, Compass Lexecon is pleased to announce that Dr. Peter Davis and Dr. Elizabeth Farina are joining the firm. Their respective experience as senior antitrust regulators and academic economists strengthens significantly the firm’s ability to analyze antitrust issues around the world, especially in the United Kingdom and Brazil.

Earlier this year, Compass Lexecon expanded its preeminent U.S. competition practice into Europe and Latin America with the addition of Dr. Jorge Padilla and his experienced team of professionals in London, Brussels, Paris, and Madrid and the addition of Drs. Pablo Spiller and Manuel Abdala and their experienced team of professionals in the U.S. and Argentina. The latest senior appointments continue Compass Lexecon’s expansion in foreign markets.

Dr. Davis most recently served as the Deputy Chairman of the United Kingdom’s Competition Commission. Previously, he was a member of the faculties of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the London School of Economics. Dr. Davis will be a Senior Vice President in Compass Lexecon’s London office from the 5th of September.

Dr. Farina is a Professor of Economics at the University of Sao Paulo. She was previously President of CADE, Brazil's competition authority. Dr. Farina will act as a Senior Consultant to Compass Lexecon and will lead the firm’s work on competition issues in Brazil, where the antitrust authority has been particularly active in recent years.

Biographies

Dr. Peter Davis

Dr. Davis was appointed Deputy Chairman of the United Kingdom’s Competition Commission in 2006 and was previously on the Competition Commission’s academic panel of expert economists from 2004. He received his Ph.D. from Yale and served on the faculties of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and then the London School of Economics before joining the Competition Commission. In addition, Dr. Davis currently serves as President of the Association of Competition Economics (ACE). He has published widely, including most recently Quantitative Techniques for Competition and Antitrust Analysis (co-authored with Eliana Garces-Tolon), published by Princeton University Press.

Dr. Elizabeth Farina

Dr. Farina served as President of CADE (The Brazilian Competition Commission) from 2004 to 2008. She is a Full Professor at the University of Sao Paulo and Vice-Chair of the Department of Economics. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Sao Paulo. Dr. Farina has worked as an economic consultant in Brazil and other Latin America countries and specifically as an economic expert in food and agribusiness strategies and antitrust litigation and mergers and acquisition analysis. She is widely published in both national and international journals.
